The project began when the client, who had spent his formative years on this site, set out to design a home of his own after becoming independent. Drawing from his memories, he desired a house that allows for ample natural light and a gentle flow of wind.

Located on a corner lot that also serves as a school route for a nearby elementary school, the site experiences a considerable amount of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. A straightforward south-facing layout would not have provided the sense of calm required for daily living. In addition, strict building coverage ratio regulations imposed further constraints. Through negotiations regarding narrow road conditions, we utilized corner-lot exemptions to maximize the buildable area, organizing the volume to enclose a central courtyard.

The building is divided into north and south volumes: the living area is placed on the south side, while the bedrooms and workspace are located to the north, clearly separating functions. However, by mediating these spaces through the courtyard, they remain visually and spatially connected rather than isolated. This configuration allows light to penetrate and breezes to pass through, creating a comfortable and cohesive living environment.

The courtyard, directly accessible from both the living room and the entrance, functions as an extension of the interior—offering a private outdoor space where one can relax without concern for passersby, whether setting up a tent or enjoying a small pool.

この土地で多感な青年期を過ごした主人が、独立して住まいを考えたところから計画は始まった。
当時の記憶から、よく風が通り、光が入る家が望まれた。
角地に位置し、近所の小学校の通学路となっているため交通量が多く、単純に南に向けた建物配置だと日々の生活が落ち着かない。
また、都市計画の観点から指定建蔽率が厳しく制限されていることもあり、狭隘協議を経て角地緩和を利用しながら最大限に敷地が使えるように中庭を囲むようなボリュームを計画した。
南北に分かれたボリュームは南側にリビング、北側に寝室•作業スペースなどと機能は明確に分けられるが、中庭を介す事でそれぞれが完全に孤立することなく、光が入り、風が抜けていく気持ちの良い繋がりのある空間が生まれた。
リビング、玄関から直接出られる中庭はテントを張ったり、プールを出したり、覗かれることのない場所で寛げる内部空間の延長としても機能する。
